Andrew Israelsen

Andrew is ...

    a composer, double bassist, educator, programmer, and instrument maker.

 

    He has a Master in Arts in Teaching with a K-12 Music focus from the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, AK. This degree was conferred in 2017. He received his Master of Music in Composition at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB in 2015, and Bachelors of Music in Double Bass Performance and Composition at Illinois State University in Normal, IL in 2011.

    His works have been featured in concert halls, art galleries, and online in the United States, Canada, and Italy.

 

    He has studied composition with Steve Reich, Peter Hatch, Mark Hannesson, Howard Bashaw, Carl Schimmel, Josh Levine, and Scott Smallwood.

​

    Andrew currently works at Spring Hill Elementary School in the Anchorage School District, teaching classroom music for grades K - 6. He also leads the school Choir.

​

    He is dedicated to teaching creativity, individual and community skills, and technology through music. He strongly believes in the value of teaching both music literacy and creativity, so that musicianship is a skill, not just an activity.
