--Educator's Cross Cultural Immersion $ Alaska Humanities Forum [Afognak, AK 2019]

In the summer of 2019 I participated in the Educator's Cross Cultural Immersion program through the Alaska Humanities Forum. This unique program gave me the opportunity to travel to Afognak Island, and participate in the Dig! Afognak Culture Camp.

Throughough the course I had the  opportunity to research culturally responsive teaching methods. I developed several tools during this time to use in my own classroom, and share with others the process of understanding myself as a teacher, my classroom culture, and much more.

--Pacific Chorale Academy [Costa Mesa, CA 2017 - Current]

I have had the honor of being a Teaching Artist for the Pacific Chorale Academy at Pomona Elementary school in Costa Mesa, CA. Pacific Chorale Academy is a Sistema inspired program that brings the joy of music to young students through youth choir.

The students are grades 3 - 6, and most have never participated in a choir before. Students participate in group rehearsal to learn critical thinking, musical literacy, aural skills, solfege, and personal and peer reflection. Students can also choose to work towards badges; these award this students when they can independantly perform sight singing, rhythm reading, solfege patterns, and more.

The materials in this ePortfolio were developed during student tenure at University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau. These materials were generated as part of the completion of the Master of Arts in Teaching degree, and is requisite course work.

These are tools for all musical and non-musical classrooms to utilize. Each is meant to expand the notion of what music education can be, and how it can be integrated with digital tools and contemporary musical philosophy to foster an enriched curriculum.
