Sound of the Day March 24th

All this time working from an alternate location means you find a lot of great musical things on the internet. Today, I spent a lot of time listening to Microtonal Guitar music.

I've discovered a lot of music by subscribing and listening to Tolgahan Cogulu on Youtube. He and many of his musical friends are exploring Turkish music with Guitar. Turkish music uses maqam - groupings of notes. Unlike American music, Turkish music has lots of notes between the notes called microtones. These notes are smaller intervals between the notes.

Sometimes our ears that are used to rap, pop, rock, and jazz don't like microtones. But! they are beautiful, and important. Give the music a chance and listen for those notes that are different than what you are used to hearing.

As I explored, I really enjoyed listening to this recording:

Another fascinating thing I've found is a LEGO Guitar invented by Tolgahan. Do you think you could invent your own instrument? If you have LEGO, or Kinex, or some other building toy you could get really creative and musical!
